The Antica Distilleria di Altavilla, distillers of Monferrato, when it comes to spirits, especially Italian ones, the first distillate produced is that obtained from pomace, namely grappa. Among the main production areas par excellence in Italy for this distillate is Monferrato, and one of the historic companies that has been passed down from generation to generation is the Antica Distilleria di Altavilla. Founded way back in 1846 by the then founder Filippo Mazzetti, over time the tradition of master distilling has been passed down from generation to generation. Today, production is still managed by the Mazzetti family: Filippo, his wife Laura, and their sons Fabrizio and Alessandro, who distill only premium pomace from the Piedmont region, predominantly from Monferrato, such as Ruchè, Nebbiolo, Malvasia, Moscato, Chardonnay, and Barbera. For distillation, they use the ancient traditional method of discontinuous distillation using small copper stills powered by steam boilers. The Antica Distilleria di Altavilla is very attentive to environmental issues and therefore minimizes the use of fossil fuels, instead using the same freshly distilled pomace. The Grappas produced by the Antica Distilleria di Altavilla are truly numerous and of the highest quality and finesse. Some grappas are white, while others are aged in barrels for a longer period. All their Grappas are absolutely top-quality, and they represent a benchmark for the entire world of Italian distillation, especially for the production of Grappa.

The absence of filtration gives a rich and persistent flavour.

Recommended pairings
