Intense red, hints of ripe red fruits with spicy notes, dry, savoury, elegant, full, with good structure.

Cannonau is the red blood that flows through the veins of Sardinia.

It is full-bodied and intense, proud, sincere and robust, like the hinterland, like the eyes of the Sardinians.

It is as old as the land on which it stands.

Until recently, it was thought that this grape variety was of Iberian origin (and, more precisely, that it had been imported to the island in the 15th century), but the discovery of grape seed remains dating back more than three thousand years in the Tirso River valley (near Oristano) demonstrates the grape variety's endemicity.

Additional details

Cannonau is the red blood that flows through the veins of Sardinia.

It is full-bodied and intense, proud, sincere and robust, like the hinterland, like the eyes of the Sardinians.

It is as old as the land on which it stands.

Until recently, it was thought that this grape variety was of Iberian origin (and, more precisely, that it had been imported to the island in the 15th century), but the discovery of grape seed remains dating back more than three thousand years in the Tirso River valley (near Oristano) demonstrates the grape variety's endemicity.

Cannonau DOC is produced purely (100%) or with at least 90% grapes of the same name, while the remaining 10% can be represented by other red grape varieties, recommended or authorised as per the Sardinia Region regulations.

Cannonau is undoubtedly the most widely grown black grape variety on the island: it is estimated that, in fact, it represents around 30% of the total vineyard area.

Recommended pairings

Excellent paired with braised game. It also pairs well with roast pork, lamb, and goat.

Serving temperature

Serve in a red wine glass at 16/18°C
