Additional details

The property is located in the municipality of Radda, in the province of Siena, and stands on a hill at the top of which is the village of Campomaggio, dominated by an eighteenth-century manor house.

The village, currently used as a tourist accommodation, dates back to the beginning of the eighteenth century and is located five kilometers north of the town of Radda.

The Campomaggio production area is one of the most suitable areas of Chianti Classico, a historic territory of choice for the world-famous denomination.

Today, Tenuta di Campomaggio is led by Tommaso and Cecilia Castellani, who arrive bringing with them an external vision, a comprehensive approach, and a fresh and determined approach to the family's business.
«Since 2016, our staff and I have begun an effective evaluation of the estate's land and undertaken winemaking in parcels.

A complex process that, however, has highlighted the enormous potential of this company, now ready to make itself known for what it is and demonstrate the grandeur of the land on which it stands.

We have also expanded our wine consultancy and begun a process of renovating the cellar."

The historic vineyards, which totaled just over 25 hectares, have all been progressively replaced since 1990, the year in which ownership passed to Castellani.

Over the years, the new owners have also purchased new vineyard land, bringing the total area to 32 hectares.

In 2016, a new vineyard was planted entirely with Sangiovese, which was completed in spring 2021 with the last part planted for a total of 3.5 hectares.

The vineyards are located between 280 and 480 metres above sea level.

The soils are medium-textured clayey-calcareous, rich in skeleton resulting from the disintegration of the parent rock: galestro and alberese.

This unique conformation of the Radda soil allows the roots to work very deep, allowing for a great balance between drainage capacity and water retention.

Even the lower average temperatures in this area, especially in spring, mean that vegetative development is initially slowed down and the grapes produce less vigorously. Therefore, the future bunch will normally be smaller and ripen more slowly, rather than early.

The large temperature variations during the summer, especially in vineyards above 300-350 meters above sea level, favor the ripening of the grapes with the possibility of having a better phenolic component and therefore an increase in the olfactory characteristics.

The main grape grown at Tenuta Campomaggio is Sangiovese, which accounts for the majority of the production. The estate also grows Canaiolo, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah.

Recommended pairings

Excellent paired with typical Tuscan dishes, such as ribollita, pappa al pomodoro and Florentine steak.

Serving temperature
