An ancient red grape variety grown in Campania, Piedirosso's origins are rather uncertain, although some believe it corresponds to the "Colombina" mentioned by Pliny. Locally, it is called " Pér e palummo ," a name derived from the color the shoot takes on shortly before harvest time, red like that of a pigeon's "foot."
Piedirosso Pompeiano is a wine with a harmonious and full-bodied taste , obtained from Piedirosso grapes grown on the slopes of Vesuvius . Ruby red in color and with an intense, fruity aroma, it has a flavor reminiscent of ripe red fruits and plums , with light hints of tobacco, coffee, and spices .
