Additional details

Origin and history of the vine
The name derives from the “black berry” fruit and the Syracusan city of Avola.
Nero d'Avola was introduced to the island several centuries ago by colonizers from Greece and then adapted perfectly to this new environment, so much so that it became Sicily's most famous and important red grape variety.
Until the first half of the 20th century, Nero d'Avola wine was used almost exclusively as a blending wine. In recent decades, Sicilian winemakers have begun producing this wine as a single varietal, with truly excellent results.

Cultivation area
The municipality of Salemi, 446 meters above sea level, has been a defining feature of the region for millennia. The heart of Italy's most vineyard-rich province (Trapani), it offers vines a unique terroir, capable of imparting inimitable characteristics and qualities to the fruit. The hilly terrain and the properties of the limestone and tuff soil, combined with the climate, create ideal conditions for growing grapes. Sicilian wines are called "sun wines" because the grapes are bathed in the warm Sicilian sun, typical of the region. Once vinified, they produce full-bodied wines with a distinctive grandeur.

In the cellar
100% Demeter biodynamic grapes.
