Additional details

Origin and history of the vine

Malvasia is a grape variety with a unique history. Its name comes from a contraction of the Greek city of Monemvasia, located in the Peloponnese, meaning "one gate." Between 1500 and 1700, thanks to the Venetians, who spread it throughout the Mediterranean, it became the most important wine in Europe.

Cultivation area
Orsogna 440m above sea level – 16 km from the Adriatic Sea and 16 km from the Maiella.

In the vineyard
The Abruzzo pergola system (a type of awning or pergola), the training system that best restores the vine's natural vegetative development, is used. In the pergola system, on a horizontal wire roof, the vines grow harmoniously and naturally, their leaves basking in the wind and sun. This training system cannot be mechanized and therefore relies on the manual skills and experience of the winemaker. Vine cultivation in the pergola system will persist as long as the smallholding survives.

In the cellar
100% Demeter biodynamic grapes.

Winemaking
Spontaneous fermentation works with what nature offers each year and relies on the strength and health of the soil and vineyard to produce grapes rich in yeasts essential for fermentation in the cellar. Spontaneous fermentation is the essential condition for creating a wine capable of capturing the authentic flavors of a terroir.
