Funnari was born in 1991, in fact it was Mimmo Paone's first wine .

Even the handwritten label has its reason and over the years has always maintained its originality.

The Nero D'Avola “Funnari” is a red that rests its roots in rich, well-draining soils, whose mixture includes clay, silt and sand.

The vineyards overlook the Mediterranean Sea , concentrating all the marine and solar nuances of this land.

The grapes are meticulously cared for and then taken to the cellar, where they are vinified as red wines at a strictly controlled temperature.

It is finally matured and aged for 12 months in small oak barrels , which give it personality and character, but above all longevity so that its life is long and intense.

With a very deep garnet color , it presents aromas of the marked elegance typical of Nero D'Avola, reminiscent of the intense red fruit of the plum , the more mature side of chocolate and tobacco.

The sip is warm and welcoming with a soft and balanced tannin , powerful, but clean.

It should be left to breathe for a long time before serving and poured with caution.

Additional details

The Paone family has lived among the vines for over 70 years, first growing vines, then selling wine, and finally producing and bottling it themselves. The Mimmo Paone winery was founded in 1991 and bears the name of the current head of the family, an experienced winemaker. We are located in the Torregrotta area, where the Mamertino DOC was established in 2004, and in Messina, where the Faro DOC has existed since 1974. We pursue constant evolution, focused on development and quality, promoting native varieties such as Nerello Mascalese and Cappuccio, Nero d'Avola, Grillo, and Insolia, but especially recognizing the potential of the local Nocera area.

This is a grape variety with an ancient tradition, typical of the Messina province, capable of producing wines with a high alcohol content. It once traveled north to fortify anemic wines. As often happens, it was then forgotten in favor of the fashions of the moment, beginning a slow decline. Mimmo, like some other producers in the area, is reviving it, studying it, and enhancing it to create his flagship wine.

The Nocera grape, the company's flagship, produces wines with good acidity, rich color, robustness, and a strong alcohol content, capable of aging and ageing well. In short, it represents a winemaking gem to be savored and appreciated.
