Additional details

Origin and history of the vine

Native to Burgundy (a bud mutation of Pinot Noir), the French name "pinot" derives from "pin," which literally means "pine," due to the shape of the bunches of grapes resembling small pine cones. It's not a white grape, and when ripe, it's reddish-gray or coppery. The winemaking techniques used influence its color: fermentation without the skins produces a wine with coppery hues, while fermentation with the skins produces a rosé color.

Cultivation area
Orsogna 440m above sea level – 16 km from the Adriatic Sea and 16 km from the Maiella.

In the vineyard
The Abruzzo pergola system (a type of awning or pergola), the training system that best restores the vine's natural vegetative development, is used. In the pergola system, on a horizontal wire roof, the vines grow harmoniously and naturally, their leaves basking in the wind and sun. This training system cannot be mechanized and therefore relies on the manual skills and experience of the winemaker. Vine cultivation in the pergola system will persist as long as the smallholding survives.

In the cellar
100% Demeter biodynamic grapes.
