During the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries, various methods of producing and blending rum became widespread in the Antilles; thanks to the help of European and local technical innovations, a product with such a refined aroma and flavor was developed that it took the name of light rum, in contrast to the heavier distillates from other Caribbean origins.

This method of distillation, aging and blending that was developed continues to represent the highest expression of the Ron ligero manufacturing technique today.

Ron Santiago is manufactured, aged and bottled uniquely in the city, in the first and oldest rum factory dating back to 1862.

The aging is 100% natural and takes place in selected, very old white oak barrels – some have been in use for more than 70 years.

The heat and humidity of the tropics naturally accelerate the evaporation of alcohol and its fusion with woody substances.

The entire production process is meticulously supervised by the master rum makers, who oversee the making of the aguardientes and their blending. In Santiago, they are true celebrities who pass down the art of formulating rum in its various varieties. Santiago is the cultural capital of the Caribbean: a blend of Caribbean culture.
