🌞 Sangiovese in the Pontine Marshes has found its ideal microclimate in Lazio for years.

🍷 Intense ruby red color with orange reflections

On the nose it offers an elegant bouquet of plum , cherry and blackberry , to which are added those deriving from the wood in which it is matured, such as vanilla, coffee and cocoa.

On the palate it is full, with good structure and softness. The sustained acidity immediately stands out and is attenuated by the refinement in wood and maturation in the bottle.

Perfect with grilled meats or first courses with elaborate sauces and gravies

Additional details

Let's begin with a bit of history about this prized grape variety. The first to mention "Sangiovese" was Giovanni Vettorio Soderini, a Tuscan agronomist, who mentioned it in a viticulture treatise as early as 1600, calling it "Sangiogheto." But where did "Sangiovese" come from? The origin of the name is still uncertain. Several theories exist: one holds that the name was given by the monks of a monastery on Mount Giove in Santarcangelo di Romagna, who poured some of the wine they produced—evidently from Sangiovese grapes—to an esteemed guest. The guest, impressed by the wine's quality and bright red color, asked what its name was. But the monks had never thought of giving it a name, so, with a bit of improvisation, they replied sanguis Jovis, meaning "blood of Jupiter."

Another theory claims that the name derives from “Sangiovannese”, meaning originally from San Giovanni Valdarno, in Tuscany.

What is certain is that this vine was already widespread in Etruscan times, finding its ideal territory in the regions of central Italy.
